We've been waiting to introduce you to the Aventon Current for several months. We were given the opportunity to visit their headquarters and test out their newest offering.
And we were blown away.
Aventon didn't set out to build a revolutionary new eMTB, but they completely reset the rules for what a high performing, capable, full suspension eMTB costs. You get an 800 Wh battery, 750 Watts of power that boosts to 850, 120 Nm of max torque mated to a 150/140mm full suspension chassis. The most amazing part, it will only set you back $4599.
Let's jump into the details.
First, let's talk about how it rides.
As I mentioned, Aventon didn't set out to revolutionize the eMTB platform. Instead, they wanted to build a bike that was predictable, fun, capable, and most importantly affordable. The best way I can describe its ride is that it does what you expect it to. After only a few minutes on the bike, I felt comfortable riding it the same way I would any of my personal bikes.
When hitting some small jump lines, it didn't buck or shutter, it came off the lip as expected and landed solidly feeling planted and predictable. Of course, I found the steepest rolling I could and sent it. The Current gobbled it up and had me giggling as we rocked around Aventon's local trails.

Let's talk about the motor. Aventon introduced a brand new, mid-drive motor they are calling the Ultro X. The drive unit can put out 850 Watts in boost mood and an impressive 120 Nm. That translates to way more power than you will need. The trails we rode had plenty of steep ups and the Current didn't even notice them. I was able to keep the bike in Eco and Trail modes for the majority of the ride and the rest I tested out the Auto mode. The motor handled it all in stride.

Of course, all of that power is worthless without a gas tank to keep it rolling. The Current comes with an 800 Wh battery giving you up to 105 miles of range. Power delivery is customizable through their app allowing you to dial in how much and when to maximize your range or the power you need for your local trails.

The Current's display is a touchscreen that is customizable to give you the date that you want. The bike has the smart features that you want on your eMTB, Overrun adjustment, Wheel Lift Control, Theft Deterrence powered by ACU, 4G and Apple Watch Connectivity.
Overrun adjustment allows you to customize how long the motor continues to assist once you stop pedaling. This helps you dial in the ride and can help you get through the techy stuff without hitting your pedals.
Wheel Lift Control helps keep your wheels on the ground. With all that power, it is easy to get the wheel up which is great for jumping and descending, but not quite what you want when climbing. The bike will adjust power to help keep your wheels on the ground when you want them planted.
Theft Deterrence will give you peace of mind. The bike has a smart lock requiring a pin to activate the motor. The 4G connectivity can alert you if there is abnormal activity and an alarm will sound if the bike is moved when locked.

Last, the parts spec. At this price, you may expect some skimping, but no, Aventon did it solid. These are top of the line parts, but everyting is solid, well-known components that work well and are durable enough to provide you with years of riding.
